box set 'Elvis 77 - The Final Curtain' has once again been removed from youtube by order of

the trailer. Also like before this claim is of course not true as the images used were all from
private collections. Missed it first time round? See it HERE

ELVIS FEATURES IN NISSAN AD - Elvis Presley' hit song 'Devil In Disguise' is being
used in the advertising campaign for Nissan' new Altima. In this commercial, we follow a
young boy and his rambunctious afternoon with his entire collection of toy cars.
We follow his adventures as much as we follow his energy and glee. His cars are in chaos.
He’s stomped on every single one of them with a Godzilla toy. Run them through mashed
potatoes, buried them in the backyard, fed them to the dog after off-roading them in the jungle
gym. They’re faded and chipped, with bumpers hanging off and dents in the doors. Except for
the Nissan Altima. As shiny and new as when he first took it out of the box. See It Here

NEW VIVA ELVIS LOGO - Here is the great new and
most certainly improved logo for Cirque Du Soleil's $100
Million Dollar show, 'Viva Elvis'. It's not just the logo that has
changed.
The show itself has changed since it started in February.
Producers made it more biographical and used more
music to tell the story, but not necessarily in a chronological
order. It also ends with Elvis’ triumphant comeback in Las
Vegas and doesn’t address his final years. All the acts are
driven by the song book, said Lubas, to keep the show
moving so there is very little dialogue.
Aside from incredible acrobatics and dance from the
performers, the music is of course the main reason people
come to the show. But most of the songs have been
rearranged with a modern spin so a new generation could
fall in love with him and his music, Lubas said. For
example, a 1960s Bossa Nova Baby song was turned into a

hip hop mash-up, while another song was turned into a reggae song ('King Creole'). "Blue
Suede Shoes" was transformed into a new hard rock song. Over 600 well-positioned
speakers create some of the crispest sound we’ve ever heard, adding to the energy of the
room as audience members actually feel every beat pulsating through them.

STUDY ELVIS - The University of Amsterdam, Faculty American Studies, presents a
bachelor course this fall on "Elvis Presley: from King to Contemporary Saint", starting
September 10, 2010.
Goals are:
1) Introducing students to Elvis Presley as an icon of American culture
2) Focusing on the religious or spiritual meaning of American icons as Elvis in the US and in
the Netherlands
Content:
In the course we will analyze the life of Elvis Presley (1935-1977) and his posthumous
career. The rise of Elvis in the mid-fifties marked the start of pop music and youth culture in
the United States and abroad. "Before Elvis, there was nothing" said John Lennon. Although
Elvis was considered a threat to the moral and religious establishment when he started, he
was quite religious himself. Elvis was the first of many idols to come. After his untimely death
his musical inheritance and his mansion Graceland gained a sacred status. What is the
religious or spiritual meaning of Elvis as a cultural phenomenon anno 2010 in the United
States, Europe and especially the Netherlands?
Professor Ruud Janssens of American Studies has asked Fred Omvlee, chaplain and
aspiring to obtain a PhD on the religious meaning of the cultural phenomenon Elvis Presley,
to present this course.
Literature that will be used in this course is:
Erika A. Doss, "Rock and Roll Pilgrims: Reflections on Ritual, Religiosity, and Race at
Graceland" in Peter Jan Margry, Shrines and Pilgrimage in the Modern World

TOM JONES AT ELVIS FOREVER - Brian Quinn informs me that the BBC has
confirmed that Tom Jones will be the star at the 'Forever Elvis' Concert in Hyde Park. From
Tom's point of view it is a shrewd move. His latest album is a gospel one and he is just
about to release a single from it - 'Run On' - the Elvis track. His audience, being mainly an
Elvis one, will favour gospel and it could do him a lot of good chart wise.
Of course he was a friend of Elvis' and knew Priscilla well so I suspect he will look forward to
appearing. The TCB Band were at the BBC this week-end going through the final details.
Could be interesting if they back Jones. He is also appearing at 'The Concert For Heroes' at
Twickenham on the same day. Perhaps he will bring Robbie Williams with him.

DR NICK IN HOSPITAL - George Nichopoulos (Dr. Nick) is in a Memphis Hospital
recovering from a broken shoulder and pneumonia.
In 1980, he was indicted on 14 counts of overprescribing drugs to Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee
Lewis, as well as twelve other patients. The district-attorney ruled out murder charges
because of the conflicting medical opinions about the cause of Presley's death.
In 1977 alone, Nichopoulos had prescribed over 10,000 doses[1] of amphetamines,
barbiturates, narcotics, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, laxatives, and hormones for Presley.
Dr. Nichopoulos claimed he had tried in vain to reduce Elvis' dependency, even going so far
as to manufacture one thousand placebos for Elvis, but to no avail. The jury concluded that
he had tried to act in the best interests of his patients. He was acquitted on all counts.
Also in 1980, the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners found him guilty of over
prescription, but decided that he was not unethical. They imposed three months' suspension
of his licence and three years' probation.
In 1995 Nichopoulos had his license permanently revoked by the Tennessee Board of
Medical Examiners, after it was revealed that he had been over prescribing to numerous
patients for years. Nichopoulos claimed it was for patients that suffered from inoperable
chronic pain, but he was unsuccessful in his defence.
During his many appeals, Dr Nick admitted to the board that he had over prescribed. 'I cared
too much,' he told them. During his court cases many friends supported him, raising money
and holding benefits to pay for court costs

TOM JONES & THE BIGGEST STAR WILL BE? - First reported a couple of days ago,
Tom Jones is now confirmed to be appearing at the 'Elvis Forever' tribute concert being held

Park show is going to be.........Priscilla Presley?

last night and yet again he took the opportunity to ridicule Elvis to get a laugh. Once again
Jones told the naked shower story which now has an extra tale added to it where, he says,
Elvis went into the toilet immediately afterwards and then had to call Red West to come and
help him pull up his leather trousers for him. This gave a very poor impression of Elvis but
gave Tom Jones a good laugh.
More and more Tom Jones seems to be turning on Elvis, revealing more and more tales that
make Elvis look like a joke. Tom Jones should be ashamed of himself for treating his former
'pal' in such a manner and on national television. Brian Quinn told me "He will not be getting
any applause from me on Sunday". I hope all Elvis fans who are in attendance this Sunday
will greet Jones with no applause and shun him as he performs the Elvis track 'Run On'
(Jones latest single) at the Concert.

ELVIS ON 1957 TV SHOW? - Sent in to my by Tony King is
this rare picture of Elvis from around 1957 which looks as if it could
be from some kind of TV show?

NEW PHOTO OF THE WEEK - This week I bring you another 70's candid, this time

MARTY LACKER ON TOM JONES - Marty Lacker has sent me an email in reply to the
news that Tom Jones has been once again telling tales on national TV, ridiculing Elvis. Here
is what Marty had to say..;"I read the story about Tom Jones ridiculing Elvis on Paul O'Grady's
TV show as well as O'Grady's smart ass remark.
Contrary to what Jones says, he and Elvis were not that close. yes, they knew each other and
where,in a small degree friends, but they were not bosom buddies as Jones likes to tell.
When he was in Elvis' presence,Jones always looked like he was in awe of Elvis. As an
example, one night, in between shows in Elvis' Vegas dressing room, Elvis was in the back
cooling off and changing clothes. In the main sitting room there were a number of people,
some of us guys, James Brolin and his wife, (Before Streisand), and [Tom] Jones.
Jones was sitting their mouthing off in a loud voice and bragging about something. All of a
sudden Elvis walked in and Jones got that look on his face and thankfully shut up.
He's like so many other people who since Elvis died, exaggerates their relationship. Elvis
had very few celebrity friends because Elvis remained down to earth not showbiz like. He had
no need to be one of them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Around Elvis' neck is what looks like a microphone.
I have included an enlargement of the item
around his neck for you to see for yourself.
Does anyone know what the story is behind
this photo? We have all seen these type of
microphones around the necks of people on
TV in the 50's, so why would Elvis have one
unless on some TV show? Lets hope we will
find out soon!

who chose to attend dressed as Elvis in jumpsuits or those in them stupid cartoon rubber
heads. One of these fans is shown on the BBC News channel as saying "To be an Elvis fan
you have to dress in this way (wearing a wig, sunglasses & a cotton jumpsuit) so you can
feel it and live it". Way to go dopey, nice to see fans trying their best to get rid of this image
that all fans dress up like a bunch of morons.
From the BBC: Elvis fans from across the UK paid tribute to The King at a concert in London's
Hyde Park on Sunday, in the year he would have turned 75. Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans hosted
the Elvis Forever event, during which fans were treated to some of his best loved songs by
artists such as Tom Jones, Craig David and Suzie Quattro.
Priscilla Presley also made an appearance, thanking the British fans who never managed to
see their idol play in the UK. But the evening belonged to the fans, some of whom paid
homage in their own way.
But why do so many try to emulate their idol and what makes a fitting tribute? Is it the
costume, the hair, the voice? As one fan put it, "as long as you love his music, that's all you
need". Take a look at the BBC News feature.

ESTONIAN ELVIS BOOK - ’Kuningas Elvis’ is the title of a new biography that has just
been published in the Baltic state of Estonia.
The book was written by Estonian Elvis fan club president Tony Tuulas, who’s an attorney-at-
law in daily life. It’s no coincidence that the Elvis fan club there was founded in 1990, the
same year that the reign of the communistic regime ended.
“During the communistic regime all western music was forbidden”, Tuulas says, “But Elvis
was nevertheless quite popular, because many of us were able to listen to him by tuning into
Finnish radio stations with our antenna radios. Mind you, this was strictly forbidden and could
result in a prison sentence”.
The book is a lavish hardback 192-page publication with many colour and b&w photos, the
story of Elvis’ life and career, an album discography from ’56 to ’77, an overview of his gold
and platinum albums, a filmography as well as a chapter about the Estonian fan club’s
activities since ’90. For more information about this remarkable book, you can contact Tony
directly at: Tonu.Tuulas@leppik.ee

$$$$$$$$$ - It was stated that there was “not” enough bonus material to make King Creole
a part of the classic albums series. After having a glance at the track list for a bootleg title,
E.E.R writer, Steven B. Roberts found this very curious indeed.
Examining the track-list, it soon becomes apparent that licensing “Rare & Unreleased” Elvis,
from private collectors is still not being considered. Unless the price is right. Read On

ELVIS DOWN THE MINE - We all know about the Chilean Mining Disaster. Well, one of
the miners trapped in the mine is an Elvis fan and insisted that a photograph of Elvis was
sent down to him. He has also raised the spirits of the other trapped miners by organising
Elvis sing-a-longs.
Brian Quinn and a few other fans thought that it would be a nice gesture if EPE were to
arrange a free trip to Graceland for him and perhaps, the other miners, when they were
rescued and had time to overcome some of their trauma.
An e-mail was sent to EPE and I am very pleased to print the following reply I have just
received from them: "Yes, we are in touch with CNN Chile and have sent a big package of
movies and music to him that they are sending down to him for the rest of the time. We are
also talking with them about a visit!".

12 TRACKS ON VIVA ELVIS (UK) - Brian Quinn tells me that SONY(UK) have assured
him that there will be 12 tracks on the UK version of 'Viva Elvis'. Some countries will have
thirteen due to local duets with Elvis on 'Love Me Tender' but NOT the UK.
They state that it is a fantastic album and will be a big record when compared to any artist.
Full tracklisting is as follows:
01. Opening
02. Blue Suede Shoes
03. That's All Right
04. Heartbreak Hotel
05. Love Me Tender
06. King Creole
07. Bossa Nova Baby

VIVA ELVIS AROUND THE WORLD - It is now coming to light that several countries are
going to get a different edition of 'Viva Elvis - The Album' as each release will have a special
'Duet' with an artist from that particular country.
The latest news is for French singer Amel Bent to duet on 'Love Me Tender' and Spanish
singer Lourdes Hernandez (aka Russian Red) to also duet on the same song on the
Spanish version of the album.
If you remember, this is what happened on the 'Christmas Duets' album last year. It seems
that this policy stems from the fact that in each country SONY have their own 'profit centres'
and can, to some degree, alter the track listings. By doing this it is impossible for
bootleggers to create one worldwide album as each country varies.
The singers chosen to duet are usually new SONY artists who have won on programmes like
the 'X' Factor. This makes sense for SONY as it gets their new artists exposure. However,
there will be NO duet on the UK edition of the album which will feature just the 10 songs first
announced days ago. A special thanks goes to Brian Quinn for his help with the E.E.R news.
