PRISCILLA REMEMBERS ELVIS - In anticipation of what would have been Elvis
Presley’s 76th birthday on January 8, USA Weekend sat down with Presley’s ex-wife,
Priscilla, to reminisce about The King. The Naked Gun actress is currently (in her role with
Elvis Presley Enterprises) working with Cirque du Soleil on a new Las Vegas show, Viva
ELVIS. In the interview, she spoke on a variety of topics.

On what fans might not know about Elvis:
“He admired other entertainers and wasn't threatened by their coming to Vegas. Elvis always
felt there was room for everyone. Tom Jones, Cher, Nancy Sinatra — he was right there to
help.”

On her favorite Elvis song:
‘Bridge over Troubled Water.’ We were in Vegas when the horse he had gifted me passed
away. He sang that song to me. Every time I hear it, that's what I think of.”

On Graceland:
“We'd spend a lot of time upstairs listening to records and watching old movies and just
having a great time with each other. It's exactly the way it was as he left it. You can feel that his
spirit is definitely there.”

On her favorite memory of Elvis:
“Watching him perform. When he'd have his little smiles or he'd nod or pick somebody out in
the audience to sing to, giving them a thrill. It was really touching.”

UNHEARD ELVIS OR ANOTHER CROCK? - We've had it time and again! There was
"Save The Last Dance For Me", then there was "Tell Me Pretty Baby", we even had an
entire album released by Memory Records,
"The Long Lost Home Recordings" which had
28 unheard private recordings. Sadly, none of these were actually Elvis singing, but were
nothing other than warbling wanna-bee's but since when has that ever stopped anyone?

Well now we have another possible fake Elvis recording...or could this one be that super rare
unheard recording we have been waiting for? Hmmm, here we go then!

Rare recordings of C.E. Rider, singing familiar Christmas standards have recently been
discovered. Among these surprising artifacts lies a collaboration between the "Godfather of
Goth Folk," and Elvis Presley covering
"Blue Christmas."

Legends of the Archives, the leading music warehouse specializing in rarities, b-sides and
imports, acquired a box of reel-to-reel recordings of C.E. Rider. The stuntman-turned
folksinger-turned stuntman, typically known for writing dark songs about his ex-lovers, is
heard singing upbeat Christmas carols. One of which is a duet of
"Blue Christmas" with
none other than Elvis Presley.

"These are the real deal. I can tell. They have engineering notes on them from B.P. Its most
likely one of Bill's many side projects and he got C.E. together with E.P. Its also very evident
how much this meetup inspired the movie
'Spinout', " stated Lead Archivist, Jeff Jergens.

The company's Founder, Mongue, had this to say "Our sound lab is analyzing the voice-
prints. After they are confirmed and wavers are signed, the original analogs will be cleaned
and remastered digitally. If all matches properly, the world will hear an unexpected C.E. Rider
Christmas album with an Elvis Presley collaboration in time for Christmas, 2011."

I love the story of how this meet up between Elvis and this C. E. Rider inspired the movie,
'Spinout' LMAO. And so we must wait until Christmas 2011 to hear this "treasure", but there is
a link to a song from the aforementioned "Legends Of The Archives", you know, those
leaders in specialising in rarities?

The youtube video tells us:
"In April 2008, Never before seen photos of Elvis in 1972 surfaced from the archives along
with many recordings of live performances and studio sessions yet-to-be released.
"Take
Me Away"
was secretly recorded in Long Beach during the 1972 tour. His record company
declined to pay for a studio recording of the song, saying it lacked commercial appeal.
However, Elvis regarded it as one of his favourites and liked to play it live, despite their better
judgement." - We then get to hear the "live" performance of
"Take Me Away"...Oh and they
also go on to state in their description,
"This secret recording is from the 1972 Long Beach
concert and now finally released for public knowledge".

Now call me sceptical but I am 100% certain this is not Elvis singing! But hey, I'm just a fan
who listens to Elvis several times a day, who am I to question those voice print experts!
Go listen to the latest claim of a long lost Elvis song

ELVIS NEW YEARS EVE 1975 - The following article and photograph are courtesy of
our colleagues at
Elvis Matters.  This may very well be the last picture of Elvis and the Colonel
together, taken on New Year's Eve 1975, 35 years ago, shortly before Elvis went on stage
(See Below).

It was a historic show in many ways for Elvis and his fans. This was the first time that Elvis
had performed on New Years Eve show since 1955 and this show would become the
highest attended Elvis concert EVER!

There were some problems with the stage set up that Elvis wasn't happy with, such as the
TCB band and Orchestra being on a different level to him and the sound system set up being
atrocious. The most noticeable when they were performing My Way and Elvis had to stop half
way through as he couldn't hear the band and got lost on the timing. He also didn't know the
lyrics to the song Auld Lang Syne and mumbled along with the crowd at midnight.

There was also an unfortunate incident while performing Polk Salad Annie when Elvis ripped
his pants and had to leave the stage to change his jumpsuit. He came on stage wearing the
Rainfall suit but when he split his pants he went to change into the V-Neck suit with Puff
Sleeves while J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet performed Sweet Sweet Spirit. Just
before the end of the show the 60,000 plus in the Pontiac Silver dome that night were treated
to an excerpt of Wooden Heart.

To add to the EM article and photo of Elvis backstage, I have included a photo of Elvis coming
out onto the stage at the concert in his "Rainfall Suit".

1st ALOHA CAPE ON SALE - The cape that Elvis
should have worn on stage 38 years ago this month on
January 12th & 14th 1973 is not available to buy on ebay
for AU$250,000 (around £164,000).

The story goes that when Elvis tried on the 5 foot cape
prior to his historic "Aloha From Hawaii" concert, the
weight almost caused him to fall backwards.

With just 24 hours to go before the first show on the 12th,
the cape was discarded and a smaller version had to be
speedily made by designer Bill Belew.

The cape would never be used by Elvis and so it sat in
storage at Graceland until is was sold off by EPE in 1999.
The seller state that the cape comes with provenance
from the Graceland Archives. Won the lottery?

COME ON EPE, DO SOMETHING - Now is a good time for EPE to show Elvis fans all
around the world that they give a damn about Elvis and his image. Just a few days before
Christmas, Elvis fans from many countries who give their time to help promote Elvis and
work to help keep his memory alive were threatened with legal action for doing nothing more
than reporting the news and are also in the throws of legal action against someone for using
the name Graceland.

YET, there is not a single word from EPE to show how they are attempting to get the piece of
trash "Elvis XXX A Porn Parody" stopped from being released on January 8th, HIS BIRTHDAY.
The DVD cover has someone who has been IMPed up to resemble Elvis and has ELVIS in
big letters across the cover.

The trailer has this IMPed up porn star in a jumpsuit performing a butchered "Suspicious
Minds" but with words changed to fit the porn X-Rated adult market. EPE cannot do their
usual cry of "if we do take action against these things it only gives more publicity to it", as the
thing is all over the news with the media taking great delight in ripping the s##t out of Elvis.
And EPE say they won't release Elvis In Concert to save him ridicule.....too late! Come on
EPE, do something and deal with things like this and not attacking the fans who dedicate
their lives in order to help keep the money rolling your way.

PAYING TRIBUTE TO SINGER & ACTOR ELVIS - Online for you to read is this neat
little tribute to Elvis in celebration of his 76th birthday. It's so nice to see a reporter treating
Elvis with such respect and not using some pathetic "humour" to get cheap laughs from the
public reading it. I say thank you Deborah Smith Ford for treating Elvis right in the press.

SONY'S CES KEYNOTE ENDS WITH ELVIS - At this years CES 2011, Sony decided
to wow the press conference with an appearance of the Cirque du Soliel team from Viva Elvis
as they danced away to Elvis and the new remake of "Bossa Nova Baby" and this is how one
reporter summed up the Sony press conference....

"We may have gotten the same old song and dance from Sony regarding the PlayStation
Phone and PSP2 last night following their CES press conference, but the event ended with a
completely different kind of song and dance.

Cirque du Soleil performs Elvis Presley's Bossa Nova Baby from its production of Viva Elvis,
closing out what was a 3D heavy, gaming light press Sony keynote at CES 2011 last night in
Las Vegas."

EPE THREATEN DANISH GRACELAND - Elvis Unlimited Magazine owner, Henrik
Knudsen is a few months from completing his £2.9 million project to recreate Elvis' famous
Memphis home by building what he calls Graceland Randers.

But, the project could be facing the wrath of Elvis Presley Enterprises as they explore legal
avenues to get the naming of Graceland Randers stopped.

"I am both surprised, shocked and a little bit disappointed", says Henrik Knudsen, the man
behind the project. "Yes, I'm very, very sad. I've met Lisa Marie and Priscilla repeatedly. They
have had the opportunity to mention it in our personal meetings". He went on, "I have taken
tourists to Graceland in Memphis for 20 years now. I am actually one of the few in Memphis
with a group of Elvis fans right NOW."

The construction has been under way for quite a while and the registration of the name
Graceland Randers was done back in 2006 and Henrik asks, "why wait so long to make
objections?"

Henrik who has made is fortune from running an Elvis magazine and selling Elvis
memorabilia also says that he feels that this action from EPE borders on harassment?

Naturally, if someone were to build, Disneyland London off their own back, it would be
expected that the Walt Disney lawyers would soon be jumping on that persons head. So is
this action from EPE really that unexpected?

Then again, there is the other argument that if EPE are to seek legal action over this project,
is it not only right that Graceland Too, in Holly Springs, Mississippi is challenged? But there
are many houses named after Graceland (there are 3 that I know of where I live) and they are
allowed to do so.

I don't think EPE are not going after Graceland Randers on the name alone, with the
announcement, "GRACELAND RANDERS will contain other things than you will find at
Graceland, or in Memphis for that matter. Restaurant, banquet facilities, shop and so on. We
will be doing everything that people expect, but also lots of things that people most likely don’t
expect."

I would say it's because it will be used as a money making business that has made EPE
take a legal stance. It looks like this will be a story to watch over the coming weeks.

Productions are to release #4 with is "Way Down".

"Welcome To The Jungle - Way Down" promises more spectacular recordings from those
historic sessions at Graceland in 1976, and this album will include some previously unheard
out-takes. For me, the ones to look forward to are the "Way Down" outtake and the album will

50 YEARS OF BLUE HAWAII - My colleagues at EIN report a one Night Special Event for
Elvis’ Birthday at the Egyptian Theatre, Hollywood. Saturday, January 8 at 7:30 PM a
celebration of the 50th Anniversary of BLUE HAWAII.

"Before all the formula ‘60s movies that turned Elvis Presley from an icon into a self-parody,
there was this sparkling original that subsequent film makers sought to use as the cookie-
cutter guarantee to Presley movie success. Sumptuous cinematography, frothy plot, pleasing
comic turns, skillful acting from co-stars Angela Lansbury and Joan Blackman, and songs as
enchanting as the island paradise all aim to please. From "Rock-A-Hula Baby" to "Can't Help
Falling In Love" and the title song - this is classic Elvis, post-army and pre-rhinestone.

The movie and the soundtrack were among the most successful of his career."
Elvis' birthday will be celebrated with the grand opening of the Maui and Sons Bar and Grill in
the Egyptian's courtyard. Activities, food and tropical drink specials, karaoke and more
starting at 4 PM in the Courtyard. If you are near Hollywood don’t miss out.

CHILEAN MINER CELEBRATES ELVIS IN TUPELO - Edison Pena, the rescued
Chilean miner with a passion for Elvis Presley songs, will be taken on a private tour of the
King's birthplace Sunday as part of Tupelo's celebration of Presley's 76th birthday.

Dick Guyton, executive director of the Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation, tells the Northeast
Mississippi Daily Journal that fans will be served birthday cake and punch Saturday at the
Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum.

"We expect it to be a low-key day," Guyton said. "It'll give us an opportunity to visit with folks."
Guyton said Pena's visit to Elvis' boyhood home in east Tupelo comes as part of his
participation in events at Graceland on Saturday in Memphis, Tenn.

During his months underground, Pena jogged to music by the King of Rock 'n' Roll and led
the other miners in Elvis sing-alongs. "We'll be happy to show him around," Guyton said.

CHART STARS TRIBUTE TO ELVIS - UK chart star,
Imelda May, appeared on the Graham Norton Show and as
a tribute to her hero's 76th birthday, she wore this wonderful
Elvis dress while she performed her latest single release,
"Inside Out"

May, aged 36, found her love of Elvis' music at an early age
while growing up in Dublin during the 1980's.

"My brother was a mad Elvis fan, and I found a tape in his
room of Elvis songs and I was thought the music was just
fantastic."Imelda said.

It's great to see a pop star paying tribute to Elvis in a tasteful
and respectful way without using things like comedy IMPS
as seen in the recent Coldplay video. Good on ya Imelda.

FEBRUARY FTD'S - Next month will see 2 more releases
from the FTD collectors label. From my colleagues at EIN, I
am told that the first title will be
‘White Knight In Vegas’
(artwork & title TBC). This album will feature the complete
show from Elvis live comeback season in 1969

The concert is the August 26th dinner show and we are told
that we will get to hear and see what it was like to be at this
show thank to Ann Moses who was a reporter for the NME
and Tiger Beat publications. Her unique photos from this season are featured in the
package, some published for the first time. The booklet also includes a unique essay written
by Ann.

‘White Knight In Vegas’ will be issued as a 5" digipack featuring a 12- page booklet and is
mastered by Vic Anesini from the original multi track tapes. It is this great show that gave us
the astounding
‘Suspicious Minds’ from the original ‘In Person’ album as well as the
excellent
‘My Babe’ from the Silver ‘EAP’ box-set. The vast majority of this concert has never
been released.

To support the ride's history, Bay Beach Amusement Park is working on adding Elvis' favorite
food, peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Bay Beach Amusement park is aiming for the
ride to open when the park opens on May 7th. Even with the harsh Wisconsin weather, recent
construction photos show that Zippin Pippin's track work is nearly complete. It appears that
the park should be able to hit their target date. Bay Beach Amusement park is the ninth oldest
operating amusement park in the U.S. according to
ZippinPippin.org. The park is already
home to historic amusement park rides, so this classic wooden coaster with an interesting
claim to fame should be right at home. (Thanks to my colleague at

NIXON FOUNDATION ISSUES ELVIS BOOK - "The Day Elvis Met Nixon," a first hand
account of Elvis Presley’s historic meeting with President Nixon, has just been published by
the Richard Nixon Foundation and is now available online.

The publication, available at http://store.nixonfoundation.org was released on the eve of Elvis’
s 76th (January 8) and President Nixon’s 98th (January 9) birthdays.

Told through the eyes of Egil “Bud” Krogh, White House aide and liaison to the Drug
Enforcement Administration, The Day Elvis Met Nixon is a trove of rare photos, original
documents, and anecdotes from the December 21, 1970 encounter between the president
and Elvis.

Krogh recounts the surprise of White House staffers when the King of Rock-n-Roll appeared
at the front gates of the Executive Mansion to deliver a handwritten letter to the President.

For Elvis, the goal of the meeting was to receive a badge and credentials from the DEA as a
“Federal Agent at Large,” contending that he could use his popularity among the youth to curb
the nation’s narcotics epidemic.

Krogh tells how the Elvis meeting request moved up the White House chain of command,
how it was approved, and how he arranged an agenda on such short notice.

At the meeting, Elvis presented the President with a gift, a silver-plated Colt 45 gun and
bullets now on display at the Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, Calif. Later the same
afternoon, he received his badge from the DEA.

Today, the Oval Office photo of President Nixon and Elvis Presley continues to be the most
requested photo from the National Archives.

“The meeting between Elvis and President Nixon remains in my mind the most novel and
interesting,” writes Krogh. “While these two men came from totally different backgrounds,
they tried to find ways to cooperate in responding to one of the most severe problems.”

EPE SUES FOR $5MILLION - Elvis Presley Enterprises claims Chrysalis Music Group
owes it more than $5 million in licensing fees for The King's music. Presley Enterprises
accuses Chrysalis of "an astonishing lack of internal controls and related failures," and
"failure to properly render payment" of "substantial sums."

Co-plaintiff Belinda Aberbach is an heir of the estates of Julian and Jean Aberbach who, with
Presley's manager Col. Tom Parker, set up two New York corporations in the mid-1950s to
control copyrights on "certain musical compositions recorded by Presley." The corporations
are Gladys Music and Elvis Presley Music.

Presley owned 25% of each corporation, Parker owned 25%, and the Aberbachs owned 50%,
according to the complaint in New York County Court.

After The King died in 1977, a series of assignments left Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE)
owning 50% interest in the compositions, and the heirs of the Aberbach's owning the other
50%. After trusts were set up, EPE remained 50% owner, and co-plaintiff Aberbach owns
another 25%, according to the complaint.

Under a 2002 agreement, Chrysalis was to collect revenue worldwide and deposit it correctly
into accounts for EPE and Aberbach. Chrysalis also was "obligated to promote and attempt
to obtain licenses with third parties for use of the compositions."

Chrysalis was to get commissions of 5% to 8%, but no more than $400,000 a year,
according to the complaint. But the complaint states: "Despite repeated assurances to EPE
and Aberbach that proper controls were in place for its royalty processing, in fact, Chrysalis
suffered from an astonishing lack of control and related failures. As a result, Chrysalis has
failed to pay EPE and Aberbach substantial sums they are owed under the agreement.
Chrysalis' failure to properly render payments to EPE and Aberbach constitutes a breach of
the agreement."

The plaintiffs say Chrysalis also failed to promote the licensing of the music, "resulting in
innumerable lost opportunities and revenues that EPE and Aberbach would have otherwise
obtained;" and failed to keep true and accurate records.

They say Chrysalis commingled funds, took more commissions that it was entitled to,
miscalculated foreign currency exchange rates, "claimed, without documentation, that there
were overpayments," "erroneously deducted certain advances it claims were unrecouped,"
"failed to properly account for revenue received," and "made numerous other errors."

The plaintiffs demand no less than $5 million, and costs. They are represented by Glen
Silverstein with Leader & Berkon (Thanks to
Courthouse News)

YOU GIVE ME FEVER AGAIN - Way back in August 2010,
E.E.R first announced and played the premier of the latest remix
from Italian DJ mixer, Spankox (Top Image).

Elvis Presley’s
'You Give Me Fever' was first released on Aug 4th,
2010 as exclusive digital download from the Apple iTunes Store,
but the remix which was a more of a miss than a hit with listeners
of our Friday show and the release of the single seemed to come
and go with little interest from Elvis fans around the world.

And now it the same remix has been re-released (Image Right),
in an attempt to cash in on Elvis' birthday celebrations by adding
the subtitle, HBA Remix, which stands for Happy Birthday Elvis!

The Spankox Press Release states: "With JXL and Paul
Oakenfold he’s one of the three only official Elvis Presley’s
remixers in the world." I guess Spankox has not heard of all those
"remixers" on the "Viva Elvis" album? You will be able to hear this
remix again on the next edition of the Elvis Request Show, Friday.

RIHANNA EQUALS ELVIS HOW? - Reported by media and websites everywhere is
some story that Pop star, Rihanna has equalled a chart record that was set by Elvis Presley
after hitting the top of the pop charts in Britain again.

Her latest release, "What's My Name," see' Rihanna become the first female solo artist in UK
history to achieve five number one singles five years in a row. The reports state that the only
other solo artist to equal this achievement was Elvis back in the 1950s?

THE DEMISE OF THE CD? - Sony Corp., the parent company of music label Sony Music
Entertainment, plans to shut down a CD-manufacturing plant in southern New Jersey in
March.

About 300 employees will be laid off once the 50-year-old Sony DADC plant in Pitman, N.J., is
closed. Sony said it plans to shift CD-making operations to a facility in Indiana. The company
moved DVD manufacturing from the plant about a year ago.

Lisa Gephardt, a Sony spokeswoman said in a statement: "In light of the current economic
environment and challenges facing the physical media industry, Sony DADC is taking
additional steps to reduce cost from our supply chain network in order to remain competitive."

Who couldn't see these kinds of closures coming? The music CD has become nearly a relic.
The emergence of digital music and music players, as well as the rise of illegal file sharing,
helped to hasten the demise of the CD as the main music distribution format.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, U.S. music sales fell 2.4 percent last year and digital track
sales grew only 1 percent to 1.17 billion. But CD sales fared far worse. When it came to
albums, sales of both newer CDs and catalog titles dropped by 16 percent and 23 percent
respectively--these two categories also saw double-digit losses the previous year, according
to the Los Angeles Times

The CD was a boon for the record industry. Not only did record labels cash in when music
buyers replaced their cassette tapes and vinyl records with discs, but the CD also helped
prevent unauthorized copying--at least initially. CDs also discouraged people from buying
singles, prompting them to purchase full albums instead.

The plant closure is just another sign that physical media's days are numbered. In addition to
music, the film and book industries are amid their own digital transformations. Netflix and
Apple are helping to fuel the emergence of Web TV. The Kindle and iPad are helping to drive
consumer interest in e-books. How far this goes is anybody's guess but one has to wonder
how long printed books and DVDs will be with us. (Thanks Brian Quinn, E.E.R reporter)

ELVIS WITH JERRY LEE LEWIS? - Just like the previous releases of things like the
duet on "Save The Last Dance For Me", rare find "Tell Me Pretty Baby" and the private jam
session "The Long Lost Home Recordings" by Memory Records, another totally fake audio is
being claimed to feature the voice of Elvis Presley.

This time the tape claims to contain the voices of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded at the
home of Jerry Lee Lewis back in 1960, just after Elvis returned from the Army.

Rod Lambert from Nashville says he bought the tape more than ten years ago at a yard sale,
but only recently discovered what was on it. As usual, an audio forensics expert has verified
that the voices on the tape were indeed Elvis and Lewis, but according to Lambert, EPE has
denied the claims.

"I contacted Sony/RCA and got a meeting with the Producer in charge of the Elvis catalog, he
agreed it was Jerry Lee and it sounded authentic to the era of 1960, but he did not agree it
was Elvis." Said Lambert.  "I didn't understand their decision, maybe it was due to the content
which is x-rated at times, or for other reasons?"

Lambert goes on, "Due to the x-rated parts, I told Sony I didn't want to taint Elvis' image and
didn't want to release all of it, just the duet. I asked if they would like to vault this tape, they
said no, so I vaulted it at my bank. I also contacted E.P.E and the response was the same,
not interested. I was baffled. I felt like I was the only one trying to do the right thing. This could
be the sexiest song ever sung by Elvis and the only duet known of between the two, it also
confirms their friendship."

This really is another one of those "Oh dear" moments and no matter how many times Sony,
EPE or the fans tell this guy that Elvis is NOT on this tape, he will never accept that truth! But
on the sites that are asking for votes, one has an alarming 61% out of 14,526 voters who
think it is the real deal. While on the other site it is closer but 55% say it is Elvis. Just goes to
show how people have forgotten what the real Elvis sounds like with all those IMPS out there.

On his own page, Lambert writes; "Elvis unplugged with Jerry Lee... not interested? Wow!
Shouldn't that be heard?  You tell me. Listen for yourself to sound bites taken from the 30
minutes. This is not a studio recording, they were at home and under the influence. The
Audio Forensic Report says it is Elvis.   In Sony's opinion it's not. Tell us what you think.

SONY CHANGES SINGLES POLICY - In a move which should help prevent a repeat of
Elvis' last single release, "Suspicious Minds 2010" which was dropped at the last minute due
to lack of radio interest and to also help prevent illegal downloading, Sony and Universal are
make singles available for sale on the same day they're released to radio station.

Tracks are often heard on radio weeks before they can be officially bought.

The new shake-up, called "On Air, On Sale", will be introduced by Universal and Sony from
Tuesday 1 February. Universal Music UK chairman, David Joseph, says the changes are
being made because "we live in an immediate world".

He said: "On Air, On Sale is good news for any music fan and exciting for our artists who can
now go into the studio knowing they don't have to wait weeks, or sometimes months, to see
the music they have created go on sale. "I'm pretty confident that in a few months it's going to
be a level playing field."

Previously, tracks would be played on radio for weeks before they were available to buy - a
practice known as "setting up" a song. But as with the recent Elvis single fiasco, many fans
were more than happy with obtaining the single by copying it from places like Youtube.

Martin Talbot is managing director of the Official Charts Company. He says it may change the
way the singles chart looks. "The concern to date has been that in that gap between a record
becoming available on radio and becoming available to buy, people have found other ways to
access that music.

"That may be recording it themselves off the radio or people going to pirate sites to download
that music. "This will potentially mean bigger sales of bigger records as well. "The chance of
a record coming in, appearing very quickly and then dropping back out again will become a
rarer phenomenon."

George Ergatoudis, head of music at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, said the move was an exciting
change for fans. "For most of the audience it's pretty exciting that as soon as you hear
something on the radio you'll be able to buy it," he told Newsbeat. "There'll definitely be
different patterns in the charts because you'll get big hit, well known artists smashing straight
into the top five.

"There'll be other artists that take a longer, slower, gradual process as people discover them
and discover the song. "There'll be a lot more travelling up and down the charts as a result of
this," he added.

BURTON ASSAULT UPDATE - According to reports, the IMP allegedly punched Jeff
Burton after he discovered his wife in the guitarists hotel room. Michael Cawthray, 43, also
known as Michael King is said to have struck out at the son of the King’s guitarist at an Elvis
Presley convention in Birmingham last weekend.

Police called to the Metropole Hotel, which was hosting the annual Elvis IMP contest, found
Jeff Burton, 48, in the lobby with a broken nose and cheekbone.
A short while earlier sources say Mr Cawthray, the event
organiser had discovered his wife Sioned in Mr Burton’s hotel
room. “It’s thought Mr Cawthray wrongly thought Jeff had been
flirting with his wife,’’ the source said.

‘‘He then walked into Jeff’s hotel room and saw his wife there,
although there was absolutely nothing going on. “He’s then
said to have punched Jeff in a corridor.”

US citizen Mr Burton is the son of Elvis Presley’s former
guitarist James Burton, who played with the King from 1969
until his death in 1977.

He had flown to Birmingham from America to attend the
awards, where he delighted 1,000 fans by singing the famous track Moody Blue. He was
taken to hospital
unconscious and Cawthray, who is an Elvis IMP, was later charged with
assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Mr Burton was discharged from hospital on Tuesday
and flew home immediately.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called at 4.25am on January 9 to
reports of a man bleeding in the lobby area of the Hilton Metropole Hotel.
“A 48 year-old man was taken to Heartlands Hospital with a broken
cheekbone, a broken nose and cuts to his face.

“A 43 year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of assault and
has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He
has been bailed to appear at Solihull Magistrates’ Court later this

Apparently, 80 Elvis IMPS performed  at the championships, and I am
told visitors attending the event payed £90 per head to attend, CRAZY!
design firm, all the headlines in the 2011 campaign speak to the king’s journey from a very
humble beginning to his triumphant successes in the entertainment business. “From Rock
to Riches,” “Started a Revolution, Ended up a king,” and “Broke the Records, Then Broke the
Rules” are just a few of the fun headlines.

The campaign will include sweepstakes, online banners, print advertising, and outdoor
signage including billboards and a 63’ tall banner on The Cannon Center for the Performing
Arts in downtown Memphis.

Other ways 1956 will be celebrated in 2011 will be with a new exhibit and timeline in the

old names Archie and he decided to write in to share just how Elvis is seen by other kids his
age and why the King of music is seen as both old and a joke.

ELVIS IS BACK AGAIN - Two legendary Elvis Presley albums have been repackaged
and will be re-released on March 1 by Sony imprint RCA/Legacy.

The albums include 1960's Elvis is Back, which was recorded between March 20 and April 4,
1960 in Nashville. The sessions took place after Presley returned from drafted duty. The
second release is 1961's Something For Everybody, which was recorded in Nashville a year
later.
The deluxe collection includes a string of Presley's
greatest hits, such as "Stuck On You," "It's Now Or Never,"
"Are You Lonesome Tonight?," "I Feel So Bad," "(Marie's
The Name) His Latest Flame," "Good Luck Charm," and
"Anything That's Part Of You."
The reissue also includes new liner notes
by New York-based journalist Stuart
Colman, a former member of '60s UK pop
stunning quality thanks to it coming from a hi-def digital transfer of an original 2" broadcast
tape and would be hard to beat apart from using the original TX master tape. And the final
DVD is a bonus disc which features news reports from around the world on Elvis' death and
his funeral.

Then there's the book...a 400 page book which we are told is huge with a very stylish, funky
design. There are loads of unseen pictures, lots of full-page images too, plus photographs
next to the reviews and newspaper cuttings, ticket stubs and suchlike.

You can read a full in-depth review of this amazing collectors box set thanks to my colleague
over at the

MORE ON BURTON ASSAULT - The IMP who punched the son of James Burton was in
court yesterday. Michael Cawthray, aged 43, of Epperston Road East, Ross-on-Sea, Wales,
is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Jeffrey Burton, the son of Elvis’
guitarist.

The assault is said to have taken place at the Metropole Hotel in Birmingham on January 9,
where the Elvis Impersonator Championships were taking place which are, organised by Mr
Cawthray and his wife Sioned.

During the short hearing Mr Cawthray, dressed in a dark pinstripe suit, only spoke to confirm
his name, address and that he would not be indicating a plea at this stage. He has been
ordered not to have any contact with Mr Burton.

Jaz Sangha, prosecuting, said that Mr Burton had suffered multiple injuries during the
alleged attack and was left covered in blood. Magistrates adjourned the case until March 15
when it is expected to be committed to Birmingham Crown Court for trial.....Watch this space!

THE GROUND BREAKING YEAR - Today, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. (EPE)
unveiled the 2011 tourism campaign for Elvis Presley’s Graceland and Heartbreak Hotel.
The campaign features black and white headshots
of Elvis Presley against a bright contemporary
colour palette.

Both the images and headlines are a subtle nod to
the 55th anniversary of Elvis’ year of firsts.

“1956 was a whirlwind year for Elvis who had only
begun breaking new ground with his unique
performance and vocal style,” said Scott Williams,
VP of Marketing for EPE. “With all the events in his
life we will be celebrating throughout the year, it
was a great place for us to begin creatively when
thinking about our annual tourism campaign.

Remarkably, 55 years ago, Elvis enjoyed his first
RCA single and national hit, "Heartbreak Hotel,"
his first album, "Elvis Presley," his first movie,
"Love Me Tender," and his first television
appearances on The Dorsey Brothers' "Stage
Show," "The Milton Berle Show," "The Steve Allen
Show" and "Ed Sullivan."

NO AUCTION FOR ELVIS PLAQUE - Elvis has left the auction. Officials relented have
on a plan to auction a plaque commemorating Elvis Presley's three concerts at Pittsburgh's
Civic Arena after fans of the King complained about the sale. "It should be placed someplace
where masses of people can see it and remember Elvis," said Priscilla Parker, 71, of
Dormont, president of the We Remember Elvis Fan Club.

Parker and four girlfriends raised $1,157 for the plaque that was placed in the Civic Arena on
Elvis' birthday in 1982. It remained there until the building closed last summer. The
city-county Sports & Exhibition Authority, which owns the arena, included the plaque in an
online memorabilia auction that opened this week.

After hearing fans' complaints, the authority pulled the plaque from the auction and offered it
instead to the Senator John Heinz History Center in the Strip District, said Doug Straley, the
authority's project executive. The history center will accept it, spokesman Ned Schano said.

"If they want to put it in the Heinz History Center, that is fine with us," said Parker, who pointed
out "It shouldn't be in somebody's private collection."

Parker said Elvis' death inspired the fan club's five founding members to make the plaque.
Elvis played at the Civic Arena on New Year's Eve in 1976, eight months before he died.

The friends raised donations and sold items at flea markets to pay for the plaque. Elvis'
estate approved their sketch for its design. (

TOM JONES COMFORTED ELVIS - It seems almost every week that Welsh warbler,
Tom Jones reveals some new story about Elvis and his time together. And now it's the turn of
the singers former press agent. Chris Hutchins has told how Tom Jones rushed to Elvis'
side to console him after Priscilla left him.

Elvis was performing at the Las Vegas Hilton in 1972 when Priscilla broke the news she was
leaving him for his karate instructor Mike Stone. "As soon as he heard, Tom hired a limo and
we drove to Las Vegas." Says Hutchins. It was raining when Jones entered Elvis' Imperial
Suite on the Hotel's 30th floor. "Are you trying to get her back?' Jones asked, settling into a
glass of his favorite Dom Perignon champagne, Hutchins claims Elvis replied, "Every
night,Tom, I call her every night. She keeps saying it's all over. The divorce is going ahead."

And with tears in his eyes, he added, "This has been one hell of a time." Hutchins then says,
"I saw something I never witnessed him do before. He (Jones) rose from his seat and put his
arm around his [Elvis'] friend's shoulders." This item is included in an article in the latest
issue of the Globe and submitted to me by an E.E.R listener.

ELVIS 77 THE FINAL CURTAIN - Before this item continues I must point out that this is
NOT an advertisement, neither is it a review....it's more like an envious look at this amazing
looking collection of Elvis' final year.

Well it really is out and by all accounts, this massive set
is already completely sold out of it's 1,500 print run.

Nobody can deny that 1977 was not a great time for Elvis
and many fans are not willing to sit down and watch the
concerts that are featured in this collection and that view
is completely understandable.

But there are many other fans who do want to own these
shows, including me, and take in those moments of
Elvis singing his heart out and giving some very fine
performances indeed.

As we know EPE own the rights to the CBS special and
say they will not release this onto DVD. But this final
year does deserve to be released, but never in a million
years would we get an in depth look at his last 8 months
like the "Boxcar" label have delivered with this set.

SIX CD's featuring Elvis shows, including 3 never before
released performances and of course it features the last
concert from June 26th 1977 in a little more clarity than
before.

This last show is also included on the DVD's where
there is over 20 minutes of great 8mm fan footage with
the audio matched up.

The SIX DVD's consist of 2 discs containing 8mm film, 2
discs with Rapid City and Omaha, both in better quality
than fans have seen before.

Next up is the actual CBS special which we are told is in

NEWS FROM FTD - Ernst Jorgensen has written in to the FECC forum regarding news of
the Memphis Recording Service soon to be released "The Cafe Europa Sessions" in March.
"Hi All,
Just a few pieces of information from FTD:

1) Wheras the masters are definitely public domaine the outtakes are not. Outtakes released
within the 50 year period following their recording date are protected for 50 years from the
date of release.

2) In the U.S. nothing is Public Demand.

3) As some people know. FTD has been working on our G.I. BLUES project for a while. The
reason it takes a lot of time to complete, is that to achieve the optimum sound you have to go
back to the original 3-track tapes, and re-mix all the material -expensive and time consuming
(something only SONY/FTD will be able to do, since nobody else has the tapes).

4) And off course the FTD release will include everything.

FREEBIES & VIVA SALES - E.E.R's regular contributor Brian Quinn writes in regarding
the sales aspect of the 'freebie Elvis CD's' that are given away in newspapers..."I confirmed
with Sony (UK) today and they state that they do NOT count towards Elvis' sales as they are
giveaways."

Personally, I think they should count but I suspect it is in the 'too difficult' tray. Each sale would
have to be passed through a POS (Point Of Sale) machine and most outlets have not got
them.

Regarding "Viva Elvis - The Album", as of today (24th) the Album has sold a total of 39,300
copies in the UK alone.

COULD CKX CRASH? - Pointed out by E.E.R's roving reporter, Brian Quinn points out
that it looks like CKX appears to be rapidly losing value and cannot help but wonder what
would happen to the Elvis World if it crashes which looks very possible?

Shares for CKX, who own 85% of Elvis Presley Enterprises and Graceland had been at a
high of $7.06 each, but at 10pm (UK time) last night, they were at $3.44. But, as of 6am (UK
time) today shares were at an even lower $3.30.

In an article in the 'American Banking & Marketing News' yesterday, there was an article that
showed an increase in trading as share prices dropped...."Shares of CKX Inc (CKXE) saw

during mid-day trading, an increase of 20.54% from the previous session. The stock last
traded at $3.47.

CKX, Inc. (CKX) is engaged in the ownership, development and commercial utilization of
entertainment content. The Company has four segments:

LAMAR FIKE UPDATE - For anyone who was thinking about attending the funeral of
Lamar Fike, who died on the 21st, here is the official announcement from Marty Lacker.
"Once again, I have been authorized by his cousin, Tommy McDonald, to announce this
update regarding Lamar's wishes for his cremation and burial.

Although Tommy is the Executor of Lamar's Estate and has Power Of Attorney as given by
Lamar that he wished to be buried with his parents in their family plot in Mart,Texas, that will
not be done. It seems the State Of Texas states that the closest blood relative, which in this
case is Lamar's sons Jamie and John has the final say.

I have been informed that Jamie has, irresponsibly in my opinion, chosen to instead take
Lamar's ashes back to Atlanta where Jamie and his wife lives for their own purposes which
are unknown at this time and totally disregard his father's wishes.

Lamar also verbally stated to me a few times over the past few years, that he wanted to be
buried in Mart after he was cremated. Lamar had absolutely no connection to Atlanta or the
entire state of Georgia whereas he lived in Mart as a young boy and had fond memories of it
which is why his parents are buried there.

Therefore I am sorry to announce there will be no final service in Mart in case anyone had
planned to attend.  I have no idea if there will be one anywhere else."

NO WHITE KNIGHT FOR FTD - FTD announced earlier
this month that their February release will be a concert from
August 26th 1969 and would be titled "White Knight In Vegas",
and as always the content and title were subject to change.
Well the title has changed to the imaginative, "Live In Vegas",
why change from an original title to something used so many
times before?

I think it's because of something ridiculous? When the album
was first announced, one fan raised the question that "White Knight In Vegas" could give the
impression Elvis really was a racist because "White Knight" is a title in the Klu Klux Klan. The
question was raised on the FECC which Ernst visits and so it's possible that the whole idea
of the KKK connection has caused the change of title? If it is then it's just getting ridiculous.
On another FTD, "From Sunset To Las Vegas" ONE fan complained who mis-construed what
Elvis was saying on disc 2 and so the stock was destroyed and then re-pressed....It's Crazy!
