| These large Hound Dogs were available to buy at Elvis concerts in the 1970s for $15.00 dollars each. This larger version is rarer then the other two because of its size. The Hound Dog came with a ribbon on its neck that says ‘Elvis Festival’ and stands at around 4 feet tall. As you can see in the photo below there is a medium size version and a smaller version. Sometimes, the smaller ‘Hound Dogs’ were used by Elvis and he would throw them into the audience usually during his performance of ‘Teddy Bear” in his 70’s Concerts. But the vast majority of small ones were originally purchased by fans from the souvenir stalls. When Elvis died in 1977, Parker found himself with excess stock and sold these during the ‘Always Elvis’ tour in 1978. The original ribbon had Elvis’ name running horizontal and the 1978 leftover stock had the same ribbon with Elvis a little smaller and the ‘Always Elvis’ logo added below it (See logo bottom right). Joe tells us that he has seen people take scissors to the 1978 Hound Dogs ribbons and cut off the ‘Always Elvis’ logo off and trying to sell these as original Elvis concert souvenirs. Hound Dog Values: Large = Book value $2000 - Joe’s value = $600 Medium = Book value $750 - Joe’s value = $300 Small = Book value $500 - Joe’s value = $200 Asking Joe about the value of the ‘Always Elvis’ versions he stated he has never seen a real book valuation but he would value it at around $150. We will be bringing you more from Joe’s bits soon, right here on E.E.R |
